I purchased this adapter approximately four months before the cable broke just below the tip that plugs into the laptop. The reason it broke so easily is that the power wires themselves are tiny, and the retractable spring-spools tend to keep the wires taught at a right angle from the tip. Use the adapter daily, and it is getting bent back and forth at that point. Eventually, the copper inside breaks. The really unfortunate part of that is that I could have salvaged it with a simple splice and repair, if it weren’t prone to breaking right at the tip, where you can’t strip back enough insulation to reveal a useful amount of copper to reconnect. But you shouldn’t have to repair a power cord you paid good money for (I paid $59.99 for this item, by the way). It should last a long time. This one is just too flimsy to recommend at any price.

Wow, you just wrote my review for me, exactly. Thank you, as my battery is about to die. I also paid $60 about 7 months ago. It is plugged into a 17″ laptop that just about never leaves its spot on my coffee table. In other words, the cord was hardly ever moved at all. And it just broke, exactly as you described. So agreed, this cord is definitely not worth any amount of money. What a waste of money. I wonder if its covered under warranty?
